Features
Everything below ships in the current version. Nothing here is a roadmap.
A map of your disk
- A sunburst of any folder, coloured by rank, with a legend and breadcrumb. Click a ring to zoom in; the breadcrumb takes you back out.
- Scans use all your cores and keep a compact index, about 18 bytes per folder, so the next look is instant.
- Reveal in Finder, copy the path, or open a Terminal there from any segment.
Sizes you can trust on APFS
- Attributed: each block counted once, so folders add up to the space in use.
- Naive: what
dureports, with clones counted in every copy. - Exclusive: what deleting the folder would free right now.
- Folders that share blocks with others carry a badge, and Explain names who they share with.
Explain
- For any folder: how much it references, how much is shared and with which folders, and roughly what deleting it frees.
- For git checkouts: unpushed and local-only commits and stashes, so you don't delete work.
- Which running programs are working inside it (their current folder).
Growth and forecast
- A background agent samples free space every 5 minutes and forecasts when the disk will be full, with a stated confidence.
- It rescans your chosen folders every 6 hours at low priority and names the folders that grew the most.
- A notification warns you before the disk fills (rate-limited, so it never nags) and says which folder grew and over what window.
- Growth outside the scanned folders, such as snapshots and swap, is shown as its own line rather than hidden.
Menu bar
- Free space and the forecast at a glance; the main window is one click away.
Command line for people and agents
gigahog status, top,du,explain, growthandforecast, each with a stable--jsonform.- Warm answers in tens of milliseconds from the saved index.
gigahog help agentsprints a guide written for AI coding agents.- The command line is never limited by the trial.
Requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon.
- Full Disk Access is optional: without it, protected folders are marked as not scanned rather than guessed at.
